Mechanization Roadshow 2024

Gitnang Luzon Sentro ng Mekanisasyon!

Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija – The 2024 Mechanization Roadshow, held on November 29 and 30, was a groundbreaking event that brought together leaders, experts, and farmers to explore the future of agriculture in the Philippines. Organized by the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), and the Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO), with the support of the local government of Cabanatuan, the roadshow was designed to highlight the importance of mechanization in enhancing agricultural productivity.

With the theme “Gitnang Luzon: Sentro ng Mekanisasyon,” the roadshow showcased innovative farming practices and cutting-edge agricultural machinery aimed at boosting efficiency and sustainability in rice farming, emphasizing the key role of technology in modernizing Philippine agriculture.

The 2024 Mechanization Roadshow began with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, marking the official launch of the event. The opening speeches emphasized the critical role of mechanization in boosting productivity and sustainability in Philippine agriculture.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of providing farmers with access to advanced tools and technologies to modernize farming practices. This set the tone for two days of informative seminars, technology demonstrations, and discussions focused on empowering farmers and showcasing innovative agricultural solutions.

The roadshow also offered several informative seminars and live technology demonstrations. These sessions, led by experts from PHilMech and KAMICO, educated farmers about the benefits of adopting modern agricultural practices and the latest mechanization technologies. By fostering a deeper understanding of the innovations available, the event empowered farmers with the knowledge to make informed decisions about improving their operations.

The 2024 Mechanization Roadshow featured live field demonstrations showcasing cutting-edge agricultural machinery designed to enhance productivity and sustainability in farming. Attendees witnessed powerful 50-horsepower tractors in action, equipped with essential implements like levee makers and rotavators. These demonstrations highlighted how mechanized equipment can significantly improve land preparation, water management, and crop planting. By showcasing these tools, the roadshow underscored the importance of adopting modern technologies to streamline farm operations and increase crop yields, ultimately contributing to the future of Philippine agriculture.

PHilMech names it’s first Bridge Award Recipient

The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) recently made history by presenting its inaugural Bridge Award to Mr. Philip Kim, CEO of FitCorea Trading Phils Inc. and Philippines Country Representative of the Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO).

The ceremony took place at the PHilMech Main Office on August 5, and the award was presented by Director IV Dr. Dionisio G. Alvindia, and Interim Director for Extension Mr. Elijah Z. Davalos.

During the award presentation, Mr. Davalos described the Bridge Award as a special recognition bestowed upon foreign nationals who have played a significant role in advancing PHilMech’s vision beyond their official responsibilities.

Director Alvindia commended Mr. Kim for his pivotal contribution to PHilMech’s mission and expressed optimism for continued collaboration and friendship between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea in the realm of agricultural mechanization and postharvest improvement.

In response, Mr. Philip Kim expressed his appreciation for the honor and reaffirmed his dedication to nurturing agricultural collaboration between the two nations, emphasizing the importance of a sustained and beneficial partnership.

The Bridge Award, a significant milestone in PHilMech’s history, marks the beginning of a series of international partnerships in line with the organization’s goal of becoming a leading center for postharvest and mechanization. This recognition underscores the value of global alliances in advancing the agricultural industry and signals a promising future for agricultural collaboration.

DA, KAMICO, Cabanatuan City Sign MOU to Set up First Local Agricultural Machinery Cluster

The project will enhance agricultural mechanization across the country and help improve productivity
and food security.

The MOU builds on a previous agreement witnessed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on June 6, 2023, which focused on promoting agricultural mechanization through the establishment of a local machinery manufacturing cluster. Key components of this partnership include the creation of an assembly production line, research and development in agricultural machinery technology, workforce training, and provision of Official Development Assistance.

President Marcos underscored the significance of this collaboration to boost agricultural productivity, particularly in rice supply, and highlighted the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund as a complementary initiative.

KAMICO aims to stimulate local manufacturing and distribution, enhance crop quality, increase farmer incomes, and produce tailored agricultural machinery.

Recognizing the critical need for agricultural equipment to improve the country’s mechanization levels, Sec. Tiu Laurel said the project will be integrated to the Department of Agriculture’s four-year plan, “Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas.” This plan prioritizes the acceleration of modernization in agri-fishery production systems to ultimately enhance productivity and resilience within farming and fishing communities.

The MOU signing coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea, and was attended by President Yoon Suk Yeol during his inaugural state visit to the Philippines.
